Story
12th Fail is based on the real life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma who became an IPS officer (police). Manoj Kumar Sharma (played by Vikrant Messi) comes from a poor family living in Chambal. His father lost his job because of his dishonesty at work.
Manoj attended a school where the principal encouraged students to cheat. A cop named DSP Dushyant (played by Priyanshu Chatterjee) arrested the principal. He explained to Manoj that honesty is the most important thing in life.
Manoj was inspired by Dushyant’s words. Manoj began to believe that an honest police officer could help change society for the better. The film shows the struggles and hardships that Manoj went through to achieve success. It shows how he achieved his goal despite many hardships.

Technical Aspects
You appreciate the music composed by Shantanumoitra, especially the quality of Telugu music. You felt the Telugu dubbing team did a good job and the film doesn’t feel like a blockbuster.
Rangarajan Rambadran’s cinematography was effective in transporting the audience into the world of Manoj Kumar Sharma. But, you thought the editing could have been better.
You found the production values to be polished and refined.
As for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s direction, you appreciated how he managed to add humor and emotion to this real life story. While you felt a few scenes in the second half could have been better, overall you thought he did a good job.

Medha Shankar is also delightful and her character is well written. The 12th Fail has its fair share of interesting moments. On the other side the pacing is slow, and at times, the film is also predictable. If you love compelling real-life stories, you can give this movie a shot this weekend.
